كِتَابٌa letter فِيهِin it خَطكِyour handwriting فِيهِin it حَظِّىmy good fortune
فآتٍfor something arriving مِنكِfrom you حَمَّwas destined بِهِwith it افتِتَانيmy infatuation
A letter bearing your handwriting holds my good fortune.
A book in which your handwriting, in it is my fortune
For whatever comes from you is destined to enchant me.
So I come to you ardently desiring it
وَأطرَبُand I rejoice إِنif أتَانيit comes to me مِنكِfrom you حَتَّىto the point that
كَأنَّكِas though you قَدalready أتَيتِyou came إِذwhen أتَانيit came to me
And if it comes to me from you, I rejoice so much
And I rejoice if anything comes to me from you, as if
that when it arrives, it is as though you yourself have come.
You had come when it came to me
وَظلتُand I kept لأنbecause بَنانَكِyour fingertips لاَمَسَتهُtouched it
اُمِرُّI run بِكُلِّover all أحرُفِهِits letters بَنانيmy fingertips
And because your fingertips touched it, I kept
And I remained because your fingers touched it
running my fingertips over all its letters.
Commanded by all its letters, my fingers
وَهدَّمنيand shattered me تَشَوقكُمlonging for you وَلمَّاand when
لَثِمَتkissed شِفَاهَlips أحرُفِكُمyour letters بَنانيmy fingertips
And longing for you shattered me when
And your longing destroyed me, and when
my fingertips kissed the lips of your letters.
The lips of your letters kissed my fingers
