أُحِبُّI love مِنَamong الإِخْوَانِfriends كُلَّevery مُوَاتِيaccommodating
وَكُلَّand every غَضِيضِlowering الطَّرْفِthe gaze عَنْfrom عَثَرَاتِيmy missteps
Among friends, I love every accommodating companion,
I love every brother who is kind to me
And everyone who averts his gaze from my missteps,
And overlooks my every slip and fault
يُوَافِقُنِيagrees with me فِيin كُلِّevery أَمْرٍmatter أُرِيدُهُI desire it
وَيَحْفَظُنِيand protects me حَيًّاalive وَبَعْدَand after مَمَاتِيmy death
Who agrees with me in every matter I desire,
He agrees with me in all I want
And protects me in life and after my death.
And guards me alive and after my death
فَمَنْthen who لِيfor me بِهَذَاwith such a one لَيْتَif only أَنِّيthat I أَصَبْتُهُI found him
فَقَاسَمْتُهُthen I shared with him مَاwhat لِيbelongs to me مِنَof الحَسَنَاتِthe good deeds
Who, then, can find me such a friend? If only I could find him,
Oh, if only I could find such a one
Then I would share with him the good deeds I have.
With whom to share my every good deed
تَصَفَّحْتُI examined إِخْوَانِيmy friends فَكَانَand were أَقَلَّهُمْthe fewest of them
عَلَىdespite كَثْرَةِthe multitude of الإِخْوَانِfriends أَهْلُpeople ثِقَاتِtrustworthy
I examined my friends, and only a few of them,
I surveyed my brothers but the least of them
Despite their great number, were worthy of trust.
For all the many brothers were men of trust
