وَيَأبىand refuses اللَهُGod إِلّاexcept ماwhat أَرادَHe willed
A man wishes to be granted his desires.
Man wants what is decreed for him,
Yet God refuses all but what He has willed.
Yet God only wills what He desires.
يَقولُsays المَرءُthe man فائِدَتيmy gain وَماليand my wealth
وَتَقوىand reverence for اللَهِGod أَفضَلُthe best ماwhat اِستَفادَhe gained
A man says, “My gain and my wealth!”
Man speaks of gain and wealth,
Yet reverence for God is the best thing he has gained.
But piety is the best gain.
