بانَdeparted الشبابُthe youth ورقَّand grew frail عظميmy bone وانحنىand bent

Youth has departed, my bone has grown frail, and bent
the forepart of the spear-shaft; the parting of my hair has grayed.

O pass of Radwa, why is the one within you not seen,
when a frenzy of passionate longing for you afflicts us?
حتىuntil متىwhen وإلىand until متىwhen وكمِand how long المَدىthe span
ياO بنson الوصيِّof the legatee وأنتَwhile you حيٌّalive تُرزَقُare sustained
Until when, and to what end—how long is the span,
O son of the legatee, while you are alive and sustained?
تَترىone after another بِرَضوىat Radwa لاnot تزالُyou cease ولاand not تُرىyou are seen

At Radwa, time follows time; you remain, yet are unseen,
while we bear loads of passionate longing for you.
إنّيindeed I لآملُsurely hope أنto أراكَsee you وإنّنيand indeed I
منof أنthat أموتَI die ولاand not أراكَsee you لأَفرَقُam surely afraid
Indeed, I surely hope to see you, yet I
truly fear that I may die without seeing you.
