سَمّاه جَبّارُ السما

سَمّاه جَبّارُ السما

صِراطَ حَقٍّ فسما

صِراطَ حَقٍّ فسما

The Almighty of heaven named him

A path of truth, and so he rose high.

فقال في الذَّكرِ وما

فقال في الذَّكرِ وما

كانَ حديثاً يُفتَرى

كانَ حديثاً يُفتَرى

Then He said in the Reminder—and it

Was no tale to be fabricated—

هذا صراطي فاتبعوا

هذا صراطي فاتبعوا

وعنهم لا تُخْدَعوا

وعنهم لا تُخْدَعوا

This is My path, so follow it;

And do not be lured away from them.

فخالَفوا ما سَمِعوا

فخالَفوا ما سَمِعوا

والخُلفُ مِمَّنْ شَرَعا

والخُلفُ مِمَّنْ شَرَعا

Yet they defied what they had heard,

And the breach came from those who began it.

واجتمعوا واتفقُوا

واجتمعوا واتفقُوا

وعاهدوا ثم التقوا

وعاهدوا ثم التقوا

And they gathered and agreed,

And made a pact, then met together:

إذا مات عنهم وبقوا

إذا مات عنهم وبقوا

أن يَهدِموا ما قد بَنى

أن يَهدِموا ما قد بَنى

When he died and they lived on,

They would demolish what he had built.

له البساط إذ سرى

له البساط إذ سرى

وفتيةُ الكهف دَعا

وفتيةُ الكهف دَعا

His was the carpet when he journeyed by night,

And he called the youths of the Cave;

فما أجابوا في النِّدا

فما أجابوا في النِّدا

سوى الوصيِّ المُرْتَضى

سوى الوصيِّ المُرْتَضى

But at the call they answered no one

Except the chosen legatee.
