من ليلةٍ باتَ مَوعوكاً أبو حسن

من ليلةٍ باتَ مَوعوكاً أبو حسن

فيها يُكابِدُ من حُمّى ومن أَلَمِ

فيها يُكابِدُ من حُمّى ومن أَلَمِ

One night, Abu Hasan lay fever-stricken,

Abu Hassan spent a night in great pain

Struggling through it with fever and pain,

In it he suffered from fever and agony

إذ قال من بَعد ما صلّى النبيُّ لهُ

إذ قال من بَعد ما صلّى النبيُّ لهُ

أبشِرْ فقد ألتَ من وَعْكِ ومن سَقَمِ

أبشِرْ فقد ألتَ من وَعْكِ ومن سَقَمِ

When the Prophet, after praying for him, said:

After the Prophet had prayed for him, he said

“Rejoice, for you have recovered from fever and sickness.

Rejoice, for you are cured of your illness and affliction

وما سألتُ لِنفسي قِيد أنْمُلةٍ

وما سألتُ لِنفسي قِيد أنْمُلةٍ

من فضلِ عِلم ولا حِلم ولا فَهَمِ

من فضلِ عِلم ولا حِلم ولا فَهَمِ

And never did I ask for myself even a fingertip’s measure

I have never asked for myself, even an ant's worth

Of added knowledge, forbearance, or understanding,

Of knowledge, wisdom or understanding

إلا سألتُ لكمْ مثلَ الذي ظَفِرتْ

إلا سألتُ لكمْ مثلَ الذي ظَفِرتْ

كفِّي به ذا لذي الآلاءِ والكرمِ

كفِّي به ذا لذي الآلاءِ والكرمِ

Without asking for you the same as what

Except I asked for you the likes of what I gained

My hand obtained—this I asked of the Lord of blessings and generosity.”

That satisfied me from the One with blessings and generosity
