أياO شِعبَravine of رَضوىRadwa ماwhat لمنْfor the one who بكَin you لاnot يُرىis seen
أيا شِعبَ رَضوى ما لمنْ بكَ لا يُرى
فحتىso until متىwhen تَخفىyou remain hidden وأنتَthough you قريبُnear
فحتى متى تَخفى وأنتَ قريبُ
O ravine of Radwa, why is the one within you unseen?
O ravine of Radwa, why is the one within you unseen?
How long, then, will you stay hidden, though you are near?
So how long will you remain hidden, though you are near?
ياO ابنson of الوصيِّthe legatee وياand O سميَّnamesake of محمدٍMuhammad
يا ابن الوصيِّ ويا سميَّ محمدٍ
وكنيَّهand sharer of his honorific byname نَفسيmy soul عليكfor you تذوبُmelts
وكنيَّه نَفسي عليك تذوبُ
O son of the legatee, O namesake of Muhammad,
O son of the legatee, and O namesake of Muhammad,
And bearer of his kunyah—my soul melts away for you.
And sharer of his honorific byname, my soul melts for you.
فلوfor even if غابَhe were absent عنّاfrom us عُمرَfor the lifetime of نوحٍNoah لأيقَنَتْwould surely be certain
فلو غابَ عنّا عُمرَ نوحٍ لأيقَنَتْ
منّاamong us النفوسُthe souls بأنّهُthat he سيؤوبُwill return
منّا النفوسُ بأنّهُ سيؤوبُ
Even were he absent from us for the lifetime of Noah,
For even if he were absent from us for Noah’s lifetime, they would surely be certain—
The souls among us would be certain that he will return.
Our souls—that he would return.
