O Muhammad, fear the Cleaver of dawns,
Tread softly, O Muhammad, for dawn has arrived,
And remove religion’s corruption through reform.
And remove the corruption of religion through reform.

Do you revile Muhammad’s brother and his appointed successor,
Do you revile the breastplate of Muhammad and his successor,
Hoping thereby for triumph and success?
Hoping for success through this? Never!

Far from it! Both have receded from you and drawn
Far from you they drew near and brought you closer
Torment and the taker of souls close to you.
To torment and the seizure of souls.

The Prophet made the finest testament in his favor,
The Prophet enjoined the best covenant upon him
And on the day of al-Ghadir declared most plainly:
On the day of Ghadir with the clearest proclamation:
منwhoever كنتُI am مولاهُhis master فهذاthen this man فاعلمواso know, all of you
مولاهُhis master قولُa declaration of إشاعةٍpublic proclamation وصرُاحِand explicitness
“Whoever has me as his master, this man—know this—
"For whoever I am his master, this one, know,
Is his master”—a public and explicit declaration.
Is his master," an open and direct word.

A payer of debts and a guide for you, just as
The settler of debts and your guide just as
I was indeed guided by guidance and success.
I used to guide with guidance and success.

You led my mother astray, and she was very weak;
You have misled my mother, though she is the root of the weak,
So she ran across the plain of error in an unbridled rush,
So she flowed into the lands of misguidance like a swooping eagle

By reviling the beacon, the Imam, and the one who holds
With insult upon the flag of the Imam and the one for whom
The Prophet’s inheritance, as most emphatically made clear.
Is the inheritance of the Prophet in the firmest evidence.

Indeed, I fear for you both the wrath of Him who
I fear for you two the wrath of the One
Set the mountains firm by a clear means.
Who made firm the mountains with mere reverberation.

My parents, then fear God and submit
My parents, fear God and submit
To the truth, so you both may hold fast to a cord of success.
To the truth, adhering to the rope of salvation.
