بأبيwith my father as ransom أنتَyou وأمّيand my mother
بأبي أنتَ وأمّي
ياO أميرَcommander of المؤمِنيناthe faithful
يا أميرَ المؤمِنينا
May my father and mother be your ransom,
By my father and mother,
O Commander of the Faithful!
O Commander of the Faithful,
بأبيwith my father as ransom أنتyou وأمّيand my mother
بأبي أنت وأمّي
وبِرهطِand with the clan أجمعيناall together
وبِرهطِ أجمعينا
May my father and mother be your ransom,
By my father and mother,
Along with the entire clan,
And by all our kin,
وبأهليand with my family وبماليand with my wealth
وبأهلي وبمالي
وبَناتيand my daughters والبَنيناand the sons
وبَناتي والبَنينا
And my family and my wealth,
By my family and wealth,
And my daughters and sons.
My daughters and sons,
وفدتكَand may it ransom you النفسُthe soul منّيfrom me
وفدتكَ النفسُ منّي
ياO إمامَleader of المُتَّقيناthe God-fearing
يا إمامَ المُتَّقينا
And may my own soul ransom you,
My soul I sacrifice for you,
O leader of the God-fearing!
O Imam of the righteous,
وأمينَand the trusted one اللهِof God والواand the inheritor (first fragment)
وأمينَ اللهِ والوا
رثَinheritor (final fragment) علمَthe knowledge of الأوّليناthe ancients
رثَ علمَ الأوّلينا
And God's trusted one, and the one
The Trustee of Allah and heir,
Who inherits the knowledge of the ancients;
To the knowledge of the ancients,
ووصيَّand the appointed successor of المصطفىthe Chosen One أحAh- (first part of Ahmad)
ووصيَّ المصطفى أح
مدَ-mad (completes Ahmad) خيرِthe best of المُرسَليناthe messengers
مدَ خيرِ المُرسَلينا
And the appointed successor of the Chosen One,
Successor of Mustafa Ahmad,
Ahmad, the best of messengers;
The best of those sent,
ووليُّand the guardian الحوضِof the Pool والذاand the repeller (first fragment)
ووليُّ الحوضِ والذا
ئدَrepeller (final fragment) عنهُaway from it المحدِثيناthe innovators
ئدَ عنهُ المحدِثينا
And guardian of the Pool, and the one
Master of the Basin, whom
Who drives innovators away from it;

You are the foremost of people,
The people, and are the best of people in faith.
And the best of people in religion,
كنتَyou were فيin الدنياthis world أخاهhis brother
كنتَ في الدنيا أخاه
يومَon the day يَدعوhe calls الأقربيناthe nearest kin
يومَ يَدعو الأقربينا
You were his brother in this world,
You were his brother in life
On the day he called his nearest kin,
When he called his kin
لِيجيبوهso they might answer him إلىto اللGod (first fragment)
لِيجيبوه إلى الل
هِGod (final fragment) فكانواand so they were أربَعيناforty
هِ فكانوا أربَعينا
To answer his call to
To answer Allah's call-
God; and they were forty,
Forty men they had been,
بينamong عمٍّan uncle وابنِand a son of عمٍّan uncle
بين عمٍّ وابنِ عمٍّ
حولَهaround him كانواthey were عَريناa lion's den
حولَه كانوا عَرينا
Uncles and cousins among them,
Uncles and cousins,
Around him they formed a lion's den.
Around him, a shelter,
فورثتَso you inherited العلمknowledge منهُfrom him
فورثتَ العلم منهُ
والكتابَand the Book المُستَبيناclearly manifest
والكتابَ المُستَبينا
So you inherited knowledge from him,
So you inherited his knowledge
And the clearly manifest Book.
And the clear book from him,
طبتَyou were pure كَهلاًas a mature man وغُلاماًand as a boy
طبتَ كَهلاً وغُلاماً
ورَضيعاًand as a suckling وجَنيناand as an unborn child
ورَضيعاً وجَنينا
You were pure as a mature man and as a boy,
Upright as an elder and youth
And as a suckling and an unborn child,
And infant and embryo too,
ولدىand at الميثاقِthe covenant طيناًas clay
ولدى الميثاقِ طيناً
يومَon the day كانwas الخلقُcreation طِيناclay
يومَ كان الخلقُ طِينا
And as clay at the covenant,
At the covenant of clay
On the day creation was clay.
When creation was but clay,
كنتَyou were مأموناًtrusted وجيهاًhonored
كنتَ مأموناً وجيهاً
عندwith ذيthe possessor of العرشِthe Throne مَكيناin high standing
عند ذي العرشِ مَكينا
You were trusted and honored,
You were trusted and eminent,
In high standing with the Lord of the Throne,
To the Lord of the Throne, assured,
فيwithin حجابِthe veil of النّورlight حيّاًalive
في حجابِ النّور حيّاً
طَيِّباًpure للطاهِريناfor the pure
طَيِّباً للطاهِرينا
Alive within the veil of light,
Alive, goodly, in the veil of Light
Pure, for the pure.
For the purified.
