ألا أنّ الوصيّةَ دونَ شَكٍّ

ألا أنّ الوصيّةَ دونَ شَكٍّ

لِخير الخلقِ من سامٍ وحامِ

لِخير الخلقِ من سامٍ وحامِ

Know that the bequest, beyond all doubt,

Belongs to the best of creation among Shem's and Ham's descendants.

وقال محمدٌ بغديرِ خُمّ

وقال محمدٌ بغديرِ خُمّ

عن الرحمنِ يَنطِقُ باعتزامِ

عن الرحمنِ يَنطِقُ باعتزامِ

And Muhammad said at Ghadir Khumm,

Speaking for the All-Merciful with resolve,

يَصيح وقد أشار إليه فيكم

يَصيح وقد أشار إليه فيكم

إشارةَ غيرِ مُصغٍ للكلامِ

إشارةَ غيرِ مُصغٍ للكلامِ

Crying out, having pointed to him among you,

With the gesture of one who heeds no talk:

ألا من كنتُ مولاه فهذا

ألا من كنتُ مولاه فهذا

أخي مولاهُ فاستمعوا كلامي

أخي مولاهُ فاستمعوا كلامي

'Behold, for whomever I have been master, this man—

My brother—is his master; so listen to my words.'

فقام الشيخ يقدمهم إليه

فقام الشيخ يقدمهم إليه

وقد حصدت يداه من الزحام

وقد حصدت يداه من الزحام

Then the elder rose, leading them toward him,

His hands already cut by the press of the crowd,

يُنادي أنت مولايَ ومولى الأ

يُنادي أنت مولايَ ومولى الأ

نامَ فلِمْ عُصي مولى الأنامِ

نامَ فلِمْ عُصي مولى الأنامِ

Calling, 'You are my master and the master of man-

kind!' So why was the master of mankind disobeyed,

وقد وَرِثَ النبيَّ رداهُ يوماً

وقد وَرِثَ النبيَّ رداهُ يوماً

وبُردته ولائكةَ اللّجامِ

وبُردته ولائكةَ اللّجامِ

When he had once inherited the Prophet's cloak,

And his mantle, and the mount that chewed the bit?
