أوَليس قد فُرضَت علينا طاعةٌ

أوَليس قد فُرضَت علينا طاعةٌ

لأولي الأمورِ فهل لها تأويلُ

لأولي الأمورِ فهل لها تأويلُ

Has obedience not already been enjoined upon us

to those in authority—then is there an interpretation of it?

ما كان خبّرنا بذاكَ محمدٌ

ما كان خبّرنا بذاكَ محمدٌ

خَبَراً له في المُسنداتِ أُصولُ

خَبَراً له في المُسنداتِ أُصولُ

What had Muhammad told us about that,

in a report rooted in traditions with chains of transmission?

إنّ الخليفةَ بعدَه هذا الذي

إنّ الخليفةَ بعدَه هذا الذي

فيها عليهِ من الخِطابِ يُحيلُ

فيها عليهِ من الخِطابِ يُحيلُ

Indeed, the successor after him is this one

to whom he refers therein in his address.
