ألم يَسمعوا يومَ الغديرِ مقالَهُ

ألم يَسمعوا يومَ الغديرِ مقالَهُ

يُؤمِّرُ خيرَ الناسِ عُوداً ومعتصر

يُؤمِّرُ خيرَ الناسِ عُوداً ومعتصر

Did they not hear his declaration on the day of Ghadir,

Did they not hear on the day of Ghadir his saying,

As he appointed as leader the best of men in ancestral stock and origin?

Appointing the best of people as a dry stick and a squeezer,

يقول ألا هذا ابن عمّي ووارثي

يقول ألا هذا ابن عمّي ووارثي

وأوّلُ مَنْ صلّى وأوّلُ مَنْ نَصَرْ

وأوّلُ مَنْ صلّى وأوّلُ مَنْ نَصَرْ

He says: Behold, this is my cousin and my heir,

Saying, “This is verily my cousin and my inheritor,

And the first to pray, and the first to give support;

And the first who prayed and the first who helped,”

وليُّكمُ بَعدي فوالوا وليَّه

وليُّكمُ بَعدي فوالوا وليَّه

وكانوا لمن عادى عدوّاً لمن كَفَرْ

وكانوا لمن عادى عدوّاً لمن كَفَرْ

Your guardian after me—so befriend his ally.

“He is your master after me, so obey him and obey his master,

And they were enemies to whoever showed hostility, to whoever disbelieved.

And be to his enemy an enemy, to the unbeliever a disbeliever.”
