ولما رأيتُ الناسَ في الدين قد غَوَوْا

ولما رأيتُ الناسَ في الدين قد غَوَوْا

تجعفرتُ باسم اللهِ فيمن تَجعفروا

تجعفرتُ باسم اللهِ فيمن تَجعفروا

And when I saw that people had gone astray in religion,

When I saw people going astray in religion,

I became a follower of Ja'far, in God's name, among those who followed Ja'far.

I followed the path of Allah with those who followed the path.

وناديتُ باسم اللهِ واللهُ أكبرُ

وناديتُ باسم اللهِ واللهُ أكبرُ

وأيقنتُ أنّ اللهَ يَعفو ويَغفِرُ

وأيقنتُ أنّ اللهَ يَعفو ويَغفِرُ

And I cried out in God's name: God is greatest!

I proclaimed the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,

And I knew with certainty that God pardons and forgives.

And I was certain that Allah forgives and pardons,

ويُثبت مهما شاءَ ربّي بأمرِهِ

ويُثبت مهما شاءَ ربّي بأمرِهِ

ويمحو ويقضي في الأُمورِ ويَقدِرُ

ويمحو ويقضي في الأُمورِ ويَقدِرُ

And my Lord confirms whatever He wills by His command,

And affirms whatever He wills by His command,

And He effaces, judges in all matters, and decrees.

And erases and decides in matters and determines.

ودِنتُ بدينٍ غير ما كنت داينا

ودِنتُ بدينٍ غير ما كنت داينا

به ونَهاني سيّدُ الناسِ جعفرُ

به ونَهاني سيّدُ الناسِ جعفرُ

And I embraced a faith other than the one I had professed,

I adhered to a religion other than what I used to adhere to,

Which Ja'far, master of mankind, had forbidden me.

And the master of people, Ja'far, prohibited me.

فقلتُ فهَبني قد تهوّدتُ برهةً

فقلتُ فهَبني قد تهوّدتُ برهةً

وإلاّ فدِيني دينُ من يَتَنَصَّرُ

وإلاّ فدِيني دينُ من يَتَنَصَّرُ

So I said: suppose I had embraced Judaism for a time,

So I said: "Forgive me, for I became Jewish for a while,

Or else that my faith was that of one who embraces Christianity.

Otherwise my religion is the religion of one who becomes Christian."

وإنّي إلى الرحمن من ذاك تائبٌ

وإنّي إلى الرحمن من ذاك تائبٌ

وإنّي قد أسلمتُ واللهُ أكبرُ

وإنّي قد أسلمتُ واللهُ أكبرُ

And indeed I repent of that to the All-Merciful,

And indeed I repent to the Most Merciful for that,

And indeed I have embraced Islam; God is greatest!

And indeed I have submitted, and Allah is the Greatest.

فلستُ بغالٍ ما حييتُ وراجعٌ

فلستُ بغالٍ ما حييتُ وراجعٌ

إلى ما عليه كنتُ أُخفي وأُضمرُ

إلى ما عليه كنتُ أُخفي وأُضمرُ

So I shall not be an extremist while I live, nor return

So I am not going back as long as I live, and I am returning

To the belief I once held, concealed, and harbored.

To what I used to conceal and harbor.

ولا قائلٌ حيٌّ برَضوى محمدٌ

ولا قائلٌ حيٌّ برَضوى محمدٌ

وإن عابَ جهّالٌ مَقالي فأكثروا

وإن عابَ جهّالٌ مَقالي فأكثروا

Nor shall I say: Muhammad is alive at Radwa,

No living being is pleased with Muhammad's approval

Even if the ignorant fault my words and do so profusely.

Even if an ignorant person criticizes my sayings and increases them

ولكنّهُ ممّا مَضى لِسبيلِهِ

ولكنّهُ ممّا مَضى لِسبيلِهِ

على أفضلِ الحالات يُقفى ويُخبرُ

على أفضلِ الحالات يُقفى ويُخبرُ

But he is among those who have passed on their way,

But it is from what has passed, for its path,

In the best of states, followed and spoken of,

In the best of states to be followed and informed.

مع الطّيبين الطاهرينَ الأولى لهمْ

مع الطّيبين الطاهرينَ الأولى لهمْ

من المصطفى فرعٌ زَكيٌّ وعُنصرُ

من المصطفى فرعٌ زَكيٌّ وعُنصرُ

With the good, the pure, those who have

With the good, the pure, the foremost for them

From the Chosen One a pure branch and lineage.

From the Chosen One a pure, excellent branch.
