Ah, is there recovery for one whom your love has worn down?

And have you an antidote for one stung by separation?

And is there, for a captive condemned to lose his life

by your love, now that your riding camels are haltered, any release?

O neighbor of the tribe that has departed—

for the pale camels stride swiftly with their loads and hasten on—

do you not yet fear God in killing a lover

whom you have forsaken even in slumber, while he yearns?

Then she said, as the terrors of separation urged her on,

and tears from the corners of her eyes poured upon her breast:

“It is separation: so don the armor of patience, or else die

of love’s sickness—lovers have died before you.”
