cups of love, brimful and overflowing.

The cup of passion rapaciously

شكوا صرفها طالبين المزا

ج فشيبت على الرغم منهم فراقا

They complained of it undiluted, seeking a blend;

They complained of its bitterness seeking sweetness

so, against their will, it was mixed with parting.

But it only brought them separation against their will

جمعنا أحاديث صرعاهم

جمعنا أحاديث صرعاهم

وسكراهم فيه لا من أفاقا

وسكراهم فيه لا من أفاقا

We gathered the tales of their fallen

We collected tales of their downfall

and their drunken ones in it—not of those who sobered up.

And their intoxication in it, none awoke
