    وفي اللذَّاتِ بعدَهما ارتيابُ

    This is the world, and youth is its adornment;

    And after those two, pleasures are in doubt.

    So let not ambitions carry you away, and gild

    Your cups for me, for the time to depart has come.

    We lodged at a dwelling in Surra Marra,

    Where pleasures are pure and sweet:

    عليه بفيضِ أدْمُعِها السَّحابُ

    Conversation like the smile of a garden, showered

    By clouds with a flood of their tears;

    And cups that surpass musk in fragrance,

    And beside them molten gold grows dull.

    When the wine and citron both gleam

    Before your eyes, you say, 'Which of the two is the drink?'
