    Take it, narcissus-bodied,

to the varied strains of a tuneful singer.

For freshly picked narcissus has revealed to us

a life of ease upon its arrival.

It unites two opposites that have seldom met:

    blazing flame and hail.

So it is like hazel eyes up close,

and it is like radiant stars from afar.

I think wide eyes envy it,

for they are sick with intense envy.

I said, when time reinforced with it

the battalions of revelry, without delay:

Welcome to what has sickened the eyes, for they shall not

be parted from their ailment for all eternity.
