O Abu Jaʿfar, your two hands were clouds,
O Abu Ja'far, your hands were clouds
whose rain-laden masses poured upon the caravan of supplicants.
Pouring down abundantly on the barefoot throng.
فماwhy, then للنَّدىfor generosity قدindeed سُدَّhas been blocked منكfrom you سَبيلُهُits path
فما للنَّدى قد سُدَّ منك سَبيلُهُ
وماand why للمَعاليfor lofty virtues عُطِّلَتْhas been left empty منكof you دارُهاtheir abode
وما للمَعالي عُطِّلَتْ منك دارُها
Why, then, has generosity's path from you been blocked?
So why has the path of generosity from you been barred?
And why has the abode of lofty virtues been left empty of you?
And why has the abode of noble deeds been shut against you?

تعز الذليل وتغني الفقيرا
Rosy in color, musk-scented,
it gives dignity to the lowly and enriches the poor.

Indeed, his hand has grasped the stratagem of noble deeds.
And its rain-laden clouds grew few, to the supplicants' dismay.

so night and day within them are alike.
