I swore a false oath about you,

And you are no friend to one who keeps faith or speaks truth.

When truth blunted its falsehood, it seemed

A swathe of night whose curtain shrouded the dawn.

A piece of iron in the ear's recesses, which one takes for

A craftsman's razor when you sharpen it for shaving.

If I ever swear another oath after this,

Then may I not be spared time's reversals and drowning.
