I seek from you fruits that I do not reap.

And hope for a state of affairs whose ties have already come undone.

I commend to God a friend in you, upon whom I lavish

Affection, while he lavishes deceit and dissimulation upon me.

As though my secret were a flame within his entrails,

So their sides cannot bear to enfold it.

Your breast was once a rock for secrets,

Jealously guarding what its recesses concealed.

Then, through divulging what you were entrusted with, it became a jewel,

So thin that the eye can see what lies within.
