I describe it, its two mantles safflower-dyed,

White, with both flanks deep crimson.

It was left to suckle for two months at the two teats,

Then, after those two, it grazed for two months.

So its body is two handspans by two handspans.

How beautiful it is, though laid low by death!

A blade honed on both edges strips its flesh,

In the hand of a roaster with fragrant palms.

The eye's arrows fall upon it,

Between two forelegs severed at the joints,

Like a thief with both hands cut off as punishment.

And a marvel that arrests both eyes,

It shows you a mirror of silver,

Gilded on its handle and both faces.

Its belly was split open to reveal two sisters,

    Two sisters alike in size,

As when you paired two truffles,

Or two delicate balls of musk.

If one with two sprouting horns is marred,

Then it is beauty without blemish.
