Has the ailing man any healer other than Ibn Qurra,

After God—and has he anyone to meet his needs?

He revived for us the philosophers' knowledge, which

Had perished, and made clear the faded traces of medicine.

So he seems like Jesus, son of Mary, speaking,

Bestowing life with the simplest prescriptions.

My flask stood before him, and through it he saw

What lay hidden between my ribs and my heart's sheath.

The hidden illness is visible to him, just as are

The pebbles of a clear pool to the eye.
