And I invited a drinking companion to wine,

When daylight had laid the darkness bare.

So I said, “Will you not rise to a bride

Who has come in a robe of pomegranate blossom?”

So he rose, with languor in his limbs,

And in his eyelids the drowsiness of a hangover.

And his eye tells whoever sees it

Of what it stole from the color of wine.
