تزيدُ بشعرها ليل ال

جفا طولاً على قتلي

جفا طولاً على قتلي

With her hair she makes the night of

Her locks did but enhance the night

estrangement longer, to kill me.

In cruelty and harmful plight

وقد صح القياس لها

وقد صح القياس لها

بردِّ الفرع للأصلِ

بردِّ الفرع للأصلِ

And indeed, her analogy has proved sound,

As branch feels chill when root knows frost

by referring the branch back to the root.

So I by her disdain am lost
