إن جفن الحبيب أصبح يشكو

رمداً أثخن الحشا بالجراح

رمداً أثخن الحشا بالجراح

Indeed, the beloved's eyelid now complains

The eyelids of the beloved now complain

Of eye inflammation that has riddled my heart with wounds.

Of rheum, more cruel than battle's wounds;

فخذوا لي الأمان إني قتيلٌ

في هواه إذ بات شاكي السلاح

في هواه إذ بات شاكي السلاح

So secure safe-conduct for me, for I am slain

Take security from me, for I die

For love of him, now that he has become fully armed.

A victim to his love though armed he stands
