أفدي حبيباً غدا في الترب مضجعه
وفيهand for his sake لذbecame sweet لطرفيto my eyes الدمعtears والسهرand sleeplessness
وفيه لذ لطرفي الدمع والسهر
I would ransom a beloved whose resting place is now in the dust.
My beloved rests tomorrow 'neath the soil
And for his sake, tears and sleeplessness have grown sweet to my eyes.
Yet gazing on his grave shall tears beguile
تحكيresemble نجومthe stars السماof heaven أزهارُthe flowers تربتهof his grave
تحكي نجوم السما أزهارُ تربته
لأنbecause طلعتهhis face تحتbeneath الثرىthe earth قمرa moon
لأن طلعته تحت الثرى قمر
The flowers on his grave resemble the stars of heaven,
The stars shall tell of flowers on his tomb
For his face beneath the earth is a moon.
For 'neath the earth there lies a shining smile
