أقولI say لهمto them قدindeed رقhas grown delicate عيشيmy life والصباand the east breeze
أقول لهم قد رق عيشي والصبا
وعقليand my mind وكاساتيand my goblets وصوتand the voice الذيthe one who غنىsang
وعقلي وكاساتي وصوت الذي غنى
I tell them: my life and the east breeze have grown delicate,
I tell them my life has softened, and my youth,
As have my mind, my goblets, and the voice of the one who sang.
My mind, my cups, the voice that used to sing.
فقالthen said الذيthe one whom أهوىI love وخصريand my waist نسيتهyou forgot it
فقال الذي أهوى وخصري نسيته
فقلتso I said لهto him واللهby God قدindeed جئتyou have come فيin المعنىthe meaning
فقلت له والله قد جئت في المعنى
Then the one I love said, “And my waist—you forgot it!”
He whom I love said, "You have forgotten my waist."
So I told him, “By God, you are included in what I meant.”
I said, "By God, in meaning I have come to you."
