إن بان فافترس اللذات وافترص

Do not recount your longing if one near enough to visit grows distant.

Do not recount yearning, for the pilgrim’s destination is far

If he departs, then devour pleasures and seize your chance.

If it appears, then seize pleasures and take advantage

ولا تدع حسرات النفس سارحه

في مهمه الوجد واحذر روعة القنص

في مهمه الوجد واحذر روعة القنص

And do not let the soul's sorrows wander freely

And do not let the soul’s regrets roam free

in passion's trackless wilderness; beware the terror of the hunt.

In the concerns of passion, and beware the startle of the hunt

وجنب النفس أطماع الغرور فما

وجنب النفس أطماع الغرور فما

تهوى سوى كل ما يختص بالغصص

تهوى سوى كل ما يختص بالغصص

And shield the soul from delusive cravings, for it does not

And keep the soul from the greed of pride, for it

desire anything but what is bound up with choking sorrows.

Desires nothing but all that pertains to robbery

واقطع علائقها عن قرب منتقم

واقطع علائقها عن قرب منتقم

أو ود منتقل أو وصل منتقص

أو ود منتقل أو وصل منتقص

And sever its ties to intimacy with an avenger,

And sever its ties from a vengeful loved one

or to shifting affection, or to a diminished union.

Or a transient affection or an imperfect union
