ورب نديم غاظه حين جادهُ

ورب نديم غاظه حين جادهُ

من القوم غيثٌ دائمُ الهطل بالنطلِ

من القوم غيثٌ دائمُ الهطل بالنطلِ

And many a drinking companion was angered when he was drenched

By the Lord of hosts, when his cup-companion angers him,

By a shower from the company, ceaselessly pouring leftover wine.

He is a perpetual rain whose showers never cease.

فقلت له تأبى المروءة

فقلت له تأبى المروءة

أننا نخليك يا بستان فينا بلا نخل

أننا نخليك يا بستان فينا بلا نخل

So I told him, “Honor will not allow

So I said to him, “Honor refuses

Us to leave you, O garden among us, without palm trees.”

That we leave you, oh oasis, in us without palms.”
