بنظم قريضٍ من علاك الورى صفا
And how many a poem celebrating your glory have I led forth as a bride,
How many a poem have I composed for your sake,
In woven verse, made pure by your eminence above humankind.
In meters derived from the pure wisdom of life.

على شاعرٍ يصفع قفا نبك في القفا
Whenever a reciter unveils its radiant words
Whenever its strange words are chanted
Before a poet, he slaps “Halt, you two; let us weep” on the nape.
By a poet who lays his head in sorrow on the executioner's block.
