A youth—when the steeds of his good fortune race among men,
A youth, if the steeds of his fortune race among men
It is hard for them to cleave their dust.
It grieves them that his dust should fly;

And when he gives, none feels ashamed at his right hand’s bounty
And if he is generous, he feels no shame at the open-handedness of his right hand
Except the clouds, when their rain-laden ones pour down.
Save the clouds, when they let loose their torrents.

So whoever hopes in him returns having gained wealth,
So he returns to his hopeful suitors and has won wealth,
For every right hand draws its wealth from his bounty.
And every hand outstretched to him he fills.
