A woman asked, “Why do you strive for wealth,

when fortune’s eyes have fallen asleep on you?”

So I told her, “By God, I have no need

to acquire worldly riches; such things matter little.

But the claims of nobility have been laid

upon me as binding obligations and debts.

So if my hand had the means, I would clear my name,

and show you what generosity is.”
