كريمٌ إن تطول يوم جودٍ

كريمٌ إن تطول يوم جودٍ

فتقصير السحاب لها قصارى

فتقصير السحاب لها قصارى

A generous man—if he lavishes bounty on a day of giving,

Generous is he whose day of giving is long

Then the clouds can do no more than fall short.

Though the clouds' rain be brief, that is their limit

وقالوا لي أيلحقه جوادٌ

وقالوا لي أيلحقه جوادٌ

فقلت ولا يشق له غبارا

فقلت ولا يشق له غبارا

And they asked me, “Can a generous man catch up with him?”

They said to me, "Can any steed overtake him?"

So I said, “He cannot even break through his dust.”

I said, "No horse can kick up dust behind him."
