    فَلَيسَ بِهِ إِلّا الثَعالِبُ تَضبَحُ

    Laflaf lies deserted of its people, and al-Muḍayyaḥ too;

so nothing is there but foxes yelping.

And dun steeds, like the wild bulls of the sands, labored

for Ẓibyah until they came to us exhausted.

They surged from al-Saʿdayn until they outstripped one another—

noble, full-grown steeds of Aʿwaj's stock.

May God send rain upon a clan of Fazārah whose home

is at Sabbay—noble folk wherever evening and morning find them.

They exacted their blood vengeance from ʿAbd Wudd,

on the morning at Banāt al-Qayn, with the horses leaning forward.

The men seeking vengeance for their wrongs seemed like

lions upon the horses' saddle-felts, as the steeds strode out.
