ألا تبكي سَراةُ بني قُشَيرٍ

ألا تبكي سَراةُ بني قُشَيرٍ

على صِندِيدِها وعلى فَتاها

على صِندِيدِها وعلى فَتاها

Will the nobles of Banu Qushayr not weep

Do not weep, O Sarra of the Banu Qushayr,

for their champion and their young hero?

For its elders and for its young men,

فإن يُقتَل يزيدُ فقد قَتَلنا

فإن يُقتَل يزيدُ فقد قَتَلنا

سرانَهُمُ الكهول على لحاها

سرانَهُمُ الكهول على لحاها

For if Yazid is slain, we have already slain

For if Yazid is killed, he has killed us -

their elder chiefs, fallen upon their beards.

Their noblemen, gray-haired, with their beards.

أبا المكشوحِ بَعدَكَ مَن يُحامي

أبا المكشوحِ بَعدَكَ مَن يُحامي

ومَن يُزجي المطيَّ على وَجَاها

ومَن يُزجي المطيَّ على وَجَاها

O Abu al-Makshuh, who will defend after you,

O Abu Makhshouh, after you who will defend us

and who will urge the riding camels on despite their aching feet?

And who will lead the horses at the charge?
