Wine—when its cups rise above the palms—

seems to lie in the palms with no cups between.

    And the cups seem, surrounded

by its light, to swim in a shallow pool.

Were its radiance spread through the gloom of darkness,

evening would rise with the bright brow of dawn.

It scattered its brilliant color over bodies,

and flowed with its delight into souls.
