ماnot حازَهُhas acquired it أَحَدٌanyone مِنَamong الأُمَراءِthe princes
ما حازَهُ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الأُمَراءِ
The prince alone among humankind has acquired a sword
The prince has obtained from the wilderness a spear
That no other prince has acquired.
That no other prince has obtained

آلٌ زَهَتهُ وَقدَةُ المَعزاءِ
Its watered pattern flows; in its gleam it is like
With a blade that gleams as if it were
A mirage adorned by the blazing heat of stony ground.
The family of lightning in the camphor wood

And its luster is like the pupils of grasshoppers,
And its elegance is like the eyelids of wild geese
Gleaming amid the blaze of sun-scorched ground.
Gleaming in the cooked pot of al-Ramtha

Unsheathed, it blazes like a fire you
It is sharpened then ignited with the ignition of fire when it is heated
Kindle, and flows as water flows,
And it chases away like the flow of water

Shifting in hue like death, seeking an aggressor,
Changing colors like an Indian sword seeking to smite
And striking decisively, like the deaf serpent.
And determined like a deaf viper
