And a wine whose radiance makes daylight fade,

and before whose glow the reaches of darkness bow.

It was poured, and its light encircled its glass,

as though it had been made a vessel for its own vessel.

And when poured, it is seen appearing within its cup,

whose bounds fall short of the wine's own bounds.

And if blended, such is the delicacy of its color

that it almost stands apart from its water in the mixing.

Yellow—the sun, if compared with it, becomes

in brightness like night amid the wine's radiance.

And when you scrutinize the air, you see it

murky on its surface beside the beauty of the wine's clarity.

Its nobility of nature increases in proportion to what

the days carry away of its substance.

Nothing is more wondrous than its recovery springing

from its sickness, and its remedy from its disease.
