Listen, O people who have gathered

in Mecca: are you human beings or camels?

Is Qays to be left secure in their homeland,

while we are made to ride the sea’s back, with the sea surging?

For, by God, I do not know, and I am indeed asking:

Is it Hamdan that defends itself against humiliation, or Yuhabir,

or the highest nobility among the descendants of Himyar—

the sons of Malik—when the cords are twisted tight?

Did their father enjoin them to maintain ties with one another,

and your father enjoin you to turn your backs on one another?
