لناwe have جَليسٌa companion باردٌdull مُعجَبٌconceited
لنا جَليسٌ باردٌ مُعجَبٌ
أَبعدهmay He banish him اللَهGod وأمثالهand his like
أَبعده اللَه وأمثاله
We have a dull, conceited companion—
May God banish him and his like!
إذاwhen احتَبىhe sits clasping his knees فيin مَجلسٍa gathering تائهاًhaughtily
إذا احتَبى في مَجلسٍ تائهاً
أخرجhe brings forth مثلَlike الأَرضِthe earth أثقالَهhis burdens
أخرج مثلَ الأَرضِ أثقالَه
When he sits clasping his knees at a gathering, full of pride,
He brings forth his burdens, just as the earth does.
وَيَدَّعيand he claims فيin نَسبthe lineage of المُصطَفىthe Chosen One
وَيَدَّعي في نَسب المُصطَفى
وفِعلُهbut his conduct يَكذبbelies ماwhat قالَهhe said it
وفِعلُه يَكذب ما قالَه
And he claims descent from the Chosen One,
But his conduct belies what he has said.
ياO رَبِّmy Lord لاdo not تَقضِdecree اتِّصاليmy association بهwith him
يا رَبِّ لا تَقضِ اتِّصالي به
يوماًfor a day وقطِّعand sever منهfrom him أوصالَهhis limbs
يوماً وقطِّع منه أوصالَه
O Lord, do not decree that I keep his company
Even for a day; and tear him limb from limb.
