يصبرني أهل المودة دائباً

وإن فؤادي والإله صبور

Those who love me ceaselessly urge me to be patient,

Those with affection always give me patience,

Yet my heart, by God, is indeed patient.

Though my heart and God are patient.

أغار على مغنى الرياسة إنني

أغار على مغنى الرياسة إنني

على كل حسنٍ في الزمان غيور

على كل حسنٍ في الزمان غيور

I am jealous over the seat of rule; indeed, I

I envy the allure of leadership, for I

am jealous over every beauty in this age.

Am jealous of all the beauty of this age.

أصرف ذهني في أمورٍ كثيرةٍ

أصرف ذهني في أمورٍ كثيرةٍ

وأعلم أن الدائرات تدور

وأعلم أن الدائرات تدور

I direct my mind to many matters,

I occupy my mind with many affairs,

And I know that the turns of fortune come round.

Knowing fortunes always turn.
