يا قاتل الب ولا واقي

يا قاتل الب ولا واقي

لا ترض باللَه بانفاقي

لا ترض باللَه بانفاقي

O slayer of [the mind]—and no protector!

O killer of hearts, thou hast no mercy,

Do not, by God, consent to my destruction.

Be not pleased, I pray thee, with my ruin.

عيناك قد قادت إلي الردى

عيناك قد قادت إلي الردى

فالقلب محتاجٌ إلى راق

فالقلب محتاجٌ إلى راق

Your two eyes have brought death to me;

Thine eyes have led me to perdition;

So the heart needs one who heals with incantations.

So my heart yearneth for a healer.

لولاك والرحمن ما كنت من

لولاك والرحمن ما كنت من

يحسب في جملة عشاق

يحسب في جملة عشاق

Were it not for you, by the Merciful, I would not have been one who

But for thee and God the Merciful,

is counted among lovers.

I had not been reckoned among lovers.

قد لذغت صدغاك قلبي فهل

تنعم للذع بدرياق

تنعم للذع بدرياق

Your two temple-locks have stung my heart; will you

Thy cheeks have bitten my heart; canst thou

kindly bestow an antidote for the sting?

Feel pleasure in the bite of a gnat?
