إِذاwhen افتقرbecomes poor المرّارُal-Marrar لَمnot يُرَbe seen فَقرُهُhis poverty
وَإِنand if أَيسَرَprospers المرّارُal-Marrar أَيسَرَprospers صاحِبُهْhis companion
When al-Marrar becomes poor, his poverty is not seen.
And if al-Marrar prospers, his companion prospers.
وَنَحنُand we جَلَبناbrought السّمهَرِيَّthe Samhari spear إِلَيهِمُto them
يُطيعُit yields to القَرينَthe opponent مَرَّةًat times وَيُجاذِبُهْand tugs against him
And we brought the Samhari spear against them,
At times it yields to the opponent, and at times it tugs against him.
وَلَوand if قَدalready بَلَغناwe reached مُنتهىthe utmost extent of الحَقِّjustice بَينَناbetween us
لَقَلَّthen would be slight غِناءُthe effectiveness of الصلتِal-Salt عَمَّنْagainst whoever يُحارِبُهْfights him
And had we reached the full measure of justice between us,
Al-Salt could do little against whoever fights him.
