ألا رَبّ سِرٍّ عِندَنا غَير فاحِشٍ

لَها ما ذَكَرناهُ بِوَحيٍ وَلا سَفْرِ

Ah, many a secret we keep, not shameful,

Oh Lord! We have a secret love

Of hers, which we have mentioned neither in a whisper nor in writing.

That we spoke not of in Scripture nor in Prose,

حَلَفتُ لَها بِاللَّهِ ما بَينَ ذي الغَضا

حَلَفتُ لَها بِاللَّهِ ما بَينَ ذي الغَضا

وَهَضْبِ القَنانِ مِن عَوانٍ وَلا بَكْرِ

وَهَضْبِ القَنانِ مِن عَوانٍ وَلا بَكْرِ

I swore to her by God: nowhere between Dhu al-Ghada

I swore to her, by Allah's name, no maid

And the hills of al-Qanan is there a matron or maiden

Between the vale of Kanan and the hills

أَحَبُّ إِلَينا مِنكِ دَلاً وَما نَرى

أَحَبُّ إِلَينا مِنكِ دَلاً وَما نَرى

بِهِ عِندَ لَيلى مِن ثَوابٍ وَلا أَجْرِ

بِهِ عِندَ لَيلى مِن ثَوابٍ وَلا أَجْرِ

Dearer to us than you in coquettish charm; yet we see no

Of Jurash stirs me more than she; no reward

Recompense for it from Layla, nor any reward.
