The laughter of old age in poetry
Has left no joy in life
They are messengers of death wandering
And death follows in their tracks
O whiteness of old age, what have you done
With your feeble hand to my songs
You are the night of misfortunes though
You seem the dawn’s light to the eye
Would that the blackness of youth had gone
With the heart’s darkness and sight
For youth is all of life, so if
The glory of life has passed
