The feast has come with smiling lips,

And its wish is that you live for all time,

So that you may live in happiness forever,

And it be counted among your radiant days.

So rejoice in it, and delight in its dawning,

Resolute in purpose, your command obeyed.

It has come to you, bearing in its glad tidings

Whatever glory and length of life you wished for.

    أم العطاشُ مواقِعَ القَطرِ

    Delegation follows delegation, racing to be first;

The thirsty seek the places where rain falls.

And the spacious courtyard is thronged,

Like waves meeting waves in a sea.

And the radiant palace seems, now that

You have shone within it, the full moon's halo.

Then, when you rise and your full moon shines in

The throne's horizon, brimming with good cheer,

They find in your mercy what the

Only son finds in a kindly father.

And they see all mankind in a king,

And they see all the earth in a palace.

O Abbas, whose hand is most precious among kings,

And who is their most exalted in the arena of pride,

No heart remains in which you have not dwelt

And taken your abode in its secret place.

    And love is never sincere

If it is not the same in secret as in public.

So may you remain unharmed to guard high glory,

And shield it from the eyes of time.

And may you live on to bestow blessings,

And may you live on for beneficence and goodness.

You granted me what I had hoped for,

And endowed me with abundant bounty.

And pardoned me with the pardon of one who has power,

Though the offense was beyond pardon and forgiveness.

And clemency is most beautiful when

The offense is grave and leaves no room for excuse.

When, then, can I give thanks for your blessings—

Magnificent, and already too great for thanks?
