صِلِ النُّدمانَ يومَ المهرجان

صِلِ النُّدمانَ يومَ المهرجان

بصافٍ من مُعَتَّقة الدِّنانِ

بصافٍ من مُعَتَّقة الدِّنانِ

Regale the drinking companions on the day of Mihrijan

Join the repentants on the day of festival

With clear wine aged in jars,

With a drink from an aged wine-skin

بكأسٍ خُسروانيٍّ عتيقٍ

بكأسٍ خُسروانيٍّ عتيقٍ

فإن العيد عيدٌ خُسرواني

فإن العيد عيدٌ خُسرواني

With a cup of aged Khosrowian wine,

With an ancient Khusrawani cup

For the feast is a Khosrowian feast.

For the feast is a Khusrawani feast

وجنِّبني الزّبَيبيِّينِ طُرّاً

وجنِّبني الزّبَيبيِّينِ طُرّاً

فشأنُ ذوي الزبيبِ خلاف شأني

فشأنُ ذوي الزبيبِ خلاف شأني

And keep me away from all the raisin-wine drinkers,

And spare me the raisin liqueurs

For the way of the raisin folk is unlike my way.

For the ways of raisin makers differ from mine

فأشرَبُها وأزعُمها حَراماً

فأشرَبُها وأزعُمها حَراماً

وأرجو عفو ربٍّ ذي امتنانِ

وأرجو عفو ربٍّ ذي امتنانِ

For I drink it and deem it forbidden,

I drink it and claim it forbidden

And hope for pardon from a gracious Lord.

And hope for the pardon of an indulgent Lord

ويشرَبُها ويزعُمُها حلالاً

ويشرَبُها ويزعُمُها حلالاً

وتلك على الشَّقيِّ خطيئتانِ

وتلك على الشَّقيِّ خطيئتانِ

And he drinks it and deems it lawful,

While they drink it claiming it lawful

And that counts as two sins against the wretch.

And those two are sins upon the wretched
