لَولاwere it not for الَّذيthat which حُمِّلتُI was made to bear مِنof حُبِّكُمlove for you (plural)
لَكانَthere would be فيin إِظهارِهِrevealing it مَخرَجُa way out
Were it not for the love for you I was made to bear,
Had it not been for the love with which you burdened me,
There would be a way out in revealing it,
There would have been a way out
أَوor مَذهَبٌa path فيin الأَرضِthe earth ذوwith فُسحَةٍample space

Or a spacious path across the earth—
Or an open space on earth into which I could have fled.
Yes, by Him for whom Madhhij made pilgrimage!
By God, he who finds a way out can run away!

But a young gazelle from among you took me captive,
But you have harnessed me with a stubborn camel,
Tenderly reared, with a nasal lilt and large, dark eyes,
A singing camel with a lovely voice,
أَغَرُّbright-faced مَمكورٌfull-limbed هَضيمُslender الحَشىthe waist

Bright-faced, full-limbed, slender of waist—
A bold camel with a slit nostril, whose mind is made up,
Indeed, the anklet and armlet have grown too tight for him.
Too bulky for narrow mountain paths and ravines.
