لما وَجَدتُ نَديماً لا يُخالِفني

لما وَجَدتُ نَديماً لا يُخالِفني

صيّرتُ نَفسي له عَبدا بِلا ثَمَن

صيّرتُ نَفسي له عَبدا بِلا ثَمَن

When I found a drinking companion who did not disagree with me,

When I found a friend who does not oppose me

When I found a boon companion who never contradicts me,

I made myself his slave for no price.

I made myself a slave to him without price

I made myself a slave to him without a price.

وَصارَ لي سَكَناً أَحيا بِرؤيَتِهِ

وَصارَ لي سَكَناً أَحيا بِرؤيَتِهِ

وَصاحِبُ الراح لا يَحيا بِلا سَكَن

وَصاحِبُ الراح لا يَحيا بِلا سَكَن

And he became my solace; I live by the sight of him,

And he became a home for me, I live by seeing him

He became my repose; I live by the sight of him,

And a wine drinker cannot live without solace.

And the companion of comfort cannot live without tranquility

For the companion of the cup cannot live without repose.
