Jesting is over, and the merry man has come to his senses.

And gray hair has followed upon gray hair.

Ah, there is no physician for the malady of gray hair.

And youth that has left you does not return.

By my life, youth has indeed departed, and I

am truly grieved at heart for it, sorrowful.

And I said to the guest—gray hair—when it came upon me:

Your share from me is coldness and frowns.

We are forbidden to grant you, here with us,

a kindly welcome, or to let perfume touch you.
